iAPRS allows ham radio operators to find each other worldwide via the Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) and their iPhone via the internet.

Nearby APRS equipped hams will display on a zoomable map with callsign overlays that can be tapped to reveal more information.

Send your current location via the iPhone GPS and location services to the APRS network and view the APRS equipped amateur radio operators in your vicinity.

Non ham operators can view the local APRS hams but not post their positions to the APRS network.

Posted iAPRS positions can be viewable on the OpenAPRS.net, aprs.fi, and Findu.com websites and on other iAPRS equipped devices. (Please note that not all APRS websites or viewers support every valid APRS data format.)

A free account at openAPRS.net is optional for use. An amateur radio operators license is highly desirable (and required to post your position).

iAprs will function on an iPod Touch but unless the wifi node is well known the iPod precise location will have to be manually entered, which can be done with a few taps on the screen..

PLEASE NOTE: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. The GPS is running whenever iAPRS is on the screen, and if automatic tracking is enabled, the GPS is running continually, even with iAPRS in the background. (iAPRS will shut down and turn off the GPS when it senses less than 40% battery life remaining if not on screen and tracking mode is ON).
